Manage Team Performance to Support Strategy

This module will explore how team performance can be evaluated and optimised to realise strategic objectives. Students will be educated on how to critically assess the link between team performance and strategic objectives, along with the tools and techniques available to set team performance targets. Students will be educated on how to evaluate a team performance plan to meet strategic objectives. They will gain insight into tools and methodologies used to assess the process for monitoring team performance and initiate changes where necessary. This module will discuss influencing methodologies that can gain the commitment of individuals to strategy.

Information Management and Strategic Decision Taking

The Information Management and Strategic Decision Making module will address the volume and complexity of data and information available to organisations and how to analyse, apply and determine its value in making strategic decisions. Students will be learned to critically identify the features of data and information, determine the legal responsibilities in sourcing, sharing and storing information, critically analyse information to identify patterns and identify methods of evaluating management information within an organisation. This is a mandatory module in the Diploma programme. In this module, students will be introduced to concepts, ideas and models which underpin an organisation undertaking information management and strategic decision taking.

Leading a Strategic Management Project

This module will involve in formulating research and methodologies to support a strategic management project. Students will be required to critically evaluate options and data sources prior to presenting project outcomes. This is a mandatory module in the Diploma programme. Upon completion of the module, students will be able to determine a strategic topic to investigate which has significant implications for the organisation, assess sources of data and information that will support the aim of the project, critically evaluate the research findings to enable conclusions and determine the medium to present the result of the project and its contribution to strategic objectives. This module will cover a wide variety of models and theories which include the methods and techniques for collecting data and information, the different types of research, the earned value management formulation and more.

Strategic Direction

This is a mandatory module in the Diploma programme. This module will explore the strategic aims and objectives of an organisation and their significance in setting direction, identifying success and progress for the organisation. The module will also explore where different strategic options may lead the organisation to change its direction. Students will be learned to critically analyse the existing strategic aims and objectives of the organisation, apply a range of diagnostic and analytical tools to audit and assess progress towards existing strategic aims/objectives and finally critically evaluate and develop a range of alternative strategic options to meet organisational strategic aims, direction and objectives in the short and medium term.

Strategic Planning

This module is about the value of the strategic planning process in formulating appropriate strategies and designing a plan. The critical review of the plan and its success is also addressed in the module. Students will be learned to critically analyse and identify the organisation’s strategic aims and objectives including the approach adopted to strategic planning, evaluate the strategic options available to the organisation over the existing planning horizon and review the organisational and market factors to be considered in the implementation of the strategic plan. This is a mandatory module in the Diploma programme.

Development as a Strategic Manager

The module aims to support organisational and self-awareness. It provides the foundation for a self-critical and reflective approach to personal development to support the learner when operating at a strategic level. Wider context organisation and environmental factors are also considered as contributors to the overall strategic success of the individual and the organisation.

Organisational Change Strategies

The main objective of this module is to enable students to understand, plan and achieve organisational change successfully. In the current business context, the change has to be fast, large-scale and transformational if organisations are to survive. However, there is also evidence that many successful organisations take a much slower and more cautious approach to change. Managing organisational change is one of the most problematic tasks leaders undertake, and that the ability to do so is a key attribute of successful leaders and successful organisations.

Human Resource Planning

This is an elective module in the Diploma programme. The module will address issues that are important when planning for and securing a workforce that will be able to deliver strategic objectives. The module will also consider the constraints and influences on organisations HR practices. Upon completion of this module, students will be able to critically assess the strategic importance of current, future and anticipated HR requirements, evaluate how organisational culture affects recruitment and retention of employees. In this module, learners will further be introduced to, and encouraged to discuss, some of the management models, concepts and ideas which could be used to help them set departmental, project, team and their own objectives.

Marketing Methods and Practice

The assessment has two tasks covering all the criteria which are to be presented in the form of a presentation and a report. The tasks assess students’ knowledge in launching a new product/service, applying the internal and external theories, knowledge on business planning and the development of integrated strategic marketing plan. It provides an in-depth understanding of strategic management and business planning, and of the tools for reviewing current organisational strategies.

Change Management and Resource Administration

The assessment provides knowledge and skills to enable the learners to demonstrate an understanding on the classic and contemporary theories of leadership; their applicability to contemporary organisations in the globalized world. Further the assessment looks into the concepts in need for organisational change and the ways in which it can be managed to support organisational strategy.

Financial Planning

The assessment covers two tasks which are to be presented in the report format. Having completed the tasks the student will have gained knowledge and understanding in applying financial principles relevant to strategic management in the organisational contexts. The assessment also focuses on strategic planning for profit as well as not for profit organisations with a global focus.

Strategic management in Action

The assessment will cover four tasks in which the answer has to be developed in the form of a report. Working on the four tasks the student will get a broad knowledge on working on the business reports based on research methodologies. The assessment also focuses on the application of quantitative and qualitative data. In addition, the student will develop the ability of critically analyzing the potential business research problems.

Entry Requirements If you wish to enrol in this programme, please make sure you meet the following entry requirements:

  • An Honours degree, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ managerial work experience in Business Managerial roles and evidence of ability to study at postgraduate level.

AND

  • If you are not a native English speaker, we would require applicants to demonstrate a certified level of proficiency in IELTS of at least 6.5 or above, or equivalent.
