Corporate Strategy

This module is aimed at developing learners’ critical analysis of corporate strategy and the role of supply chains in a global context. It explores how functional strategies are integrated and the relationship between strategy and organisation. It also requires learners to demonstrate professional skills that enable effective business management at the strategic level.

The module will examine theoretical and conceptual frameworks and their use in evaluating and recommending practical applications in business areas such as market entry, internationalisation, global sourcing, globalisation, alliances and corporate growth.

Corporate Finance and Financial Strategy

This module addresses the issues around making investment decisions and corporate finance at the global level. It highlights strategic approaches, risk and needs for maintaining working capital. The module explores different capital structures, foreign exchange options and corporate finance, restructuring. This module explains the risks involved with foreign exchange and how to critically assess potential impacts on a range of different organisations in different sectors.

Human Resource Practice, Leadership and Managing People

The aim of this module is to critique the skills, value and contribution of human resource management and development practitioners, and leaders for the effective operation of organisations. Learners will gain insight into HR and leadership practices and techniques and examine relevant theory. The need for expertise and professionalism amongst HR practitioners and how ethics and culture in organisations might be affected is also considered. This module will teach how management practice has used, adapted or developed theoretical models using examples in real organisations.

Global Trade and its impact on Strategy

The module looks at contemporary trade and trade issues as they affect organisations. It examines the impact of globalisation, the internet, politics and ethics on business behaviour and business success. This module will look at how international trade relations and regulation affects the supply of materials, labour, products and services in different industries.

It will also examine how the Internet has changed global trade and critique how it has affected different industry sectors and individual companies using case study evidence and how global brands and other companies have been affected by the politicization of issues and ethical considerations.

Research, Problem Solving and Business Reporting

The unit will develop learners’ use and understanding of research methods using research evidence. It will review relevant methods and theory connected with identifying and solving business problems as well as exploring the use of decision making tools.

Learners will be expected to develop and show competence in their business writing too by presenting reports that make use of relevant research evidence to support their propositions and recommendations.

Operations, Quality and Supply Chain Management

The main objective of this module is to enable students to understand, plan and achieve organisational change successfully. The received wisdom in much of the business world is that change has to be fast, large-scale and transformational if organisations are to survive. However, there is also evidence that many successful organisations take a much slower and more cautious approach to change. In addition, the failure rate of change initiatives is claimed to be around 70%.

This is an elective module in the Diploma programme. It follows from this that managing organisational change is one of the most problematic tasks leaders undertake, and that the ability to do so is a key attribute of successful leaders and successful organisations.

Project Management

The module will investigate underlying models, techniques and theories that underpin marketing and can contribute to strategic objectives. It will also provide Learners with a critical understanding of the marketing function within complex organisations. Upon completion of the module, students will be able to critically evaluate how marketing techniques and tools can support the strategy of an organisation and how this impacts on the marketing plan, critically analyse the components of a marketing plan and the levels of importance of each component to the achievement of strategic objectives and discuss how the plan supports strategic objectives.

This is an elective module in the Diploma programme. In this module learners will be introduced to the basic/ traditional approaches to strategy, behavioural measures of loyalty, the diffusion of innovation and more.

Strategic Marketing

This module is geared towards supporting learners in understanding and using financial information and data. This module is important to learners as it support decision making. Learners will be able determine what financial information is needed and assess its validity, identify how a budget can be produced taking into account financial constraints and achievement of targets and identify criteria by which proposals can be judged.

This is an elective module in the Diploma programme. A few of the management theories/models covered in this module includes costing methods and overhead allocations, analysis of financial data, sources of data and information etc. Learners will further be introduced to, and encouraged to discuss, some of the management models, concepts and ideas which could be used to help them set departmental, project, team and their own objectives.

Strategic Management with global focus

Having learnt on strategic management and global marketing this combined assignment allows the student to demonstrate in-depth understanding on developing effective strategic plans focusing on marketing, design and innovation for global markets. Overall assignment ensures that the student applies business planning concepts, frameworks to design appropriate global marketing strategies through market research.

Change Management and Resource Administration

The assessment provides knowledge and skills to enable the learners to demonstrate an understanding on the classic and contemporary theories of leadership; their applicability to contemporary organisations in the globalized world. Further the assessment looks into the concepts in need for organisational change and the ways in which it can be managed to support organisational strategy.

Financial Planning

The assessment covers two tasks which are to be presented in the report format. Having completed the tasks the student will have gained knowledge and understanding in applying financial principles relevant to strategic management in the organisational contexts. The assessment also focuses on strategic planning for profit as well as not for profit organisations with a global focus.

Strategic management in Action

The assessment will cover four tasks in which the answer has to be developed in the form of a report. Working on the four tasks the student will get a broad knowledge on working on the business reports based on research methodologies. The assessment also focuses on the application of quantitative and qualitative data. In addition, the student will develop the ability of critically analyzing the potential business research problems.

Entry Requirements for the Diploma in Executive Management If you wish to enrol in this programme, please make sure you meet the following entry requirements:

The prerequisite knowledge and/or experience you would need to study this course.

  • An Honours degree, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ managerial work experience in Business Managerial roles and evidence of ability to study at postgraduate level.


If you are not a native English speaker, we would require applicants to demonstrate a certified level of proficiency in IELTS of at least 6 or above, or equivalent.
