Change Management and Strategic Leadership

This module considers leadership in organisations and how leadership is instrumental in promoting successful change. Leadership theories provide an understanding of and insight to how leaders function.

The module considers how managerial effectiveness can be developed to ensure that organisations are led in a way that allows them to develop and achieve organisational objectives. Organisations need to change in order to survive and students will develop an understanding of the nature of the change process and how managers can accommodate the need for change through action.

Strategic Resource Management in Organisations

This module will focus on the importance of human resource management, marketing and IT functions in supporting the business strategy. A sound human resource management strategy should be adaptable to the changes in business environment whilst retaining employee engagement to obtain desired results.

Similarly, marketing strategy assists in achieving organisational goals related to profitability, growth and revenue generation. Information systems management is also increasingly becoming vital to achieve organisational performance. Hence, it is vital to manage all these functions optimally to achieve desired organisational results.

Marketing Management in Practice

This module considers the requirements of corporate management by looking at how business strategy and operations are shaped. Marketing is a key function in the business and is a source of competitive advantage for businesses to differentiate from its competitors. It is a process of overseeing and planning new products, advertising and sales. Marketing strategy is intertwined with the overall business strategy. It also includes managing different stakeholders who have diverse interests but ultimately want to see organisations develop in the global economy. Best practices in ethical management and corporate governance are some aspects that provide challenges and opportunities in Marketing Management practice.

Strategic Management

Students will examine the role and importance of strategic business planning in organisations. Businesses need to identify their core purposes so that all other activities can be synchronised and structured in order to support the achievement of these objectives. The business environment however, is fluid, and businesses need to respond to both internal and external factors when reviewing their strategies. Strategies need to be designed in such a way, so as to achieve competitive advantage. Both the strategies and the nature of competitive advantage are dependent on, and need to be aligned to, what the business is and what the business does. There are a number of operational and emerging issues that impact upon business strategy, and students will learn how sustainable and ethical considerations have an increasing impact on strategy.

Strategic Financial Management

This module examines the importance of financial resourcing on an organisation’s performance, as liquidity and stability are central to the survival of organisations, The business environment and business activities are subject to risk and uncertainty and students will examine how these can be factored into financial management to ensure problems are accounted for and minimised. The modules teaches students how to assess the financial state of a business using the requisite tools and how to interpret the results to gain a better understanding of the financial performance of a business in order to decide how its financial resources could be managed better.

Marketing Methods and Practice

The assessment has two tasks covering all the criteria which are to be presented in the form of a presentation and a report. The tasks assess students’ knowledge in launching a new product/service, applying the internal and external theories, knowledge on business planning and the development of integrated strategic marketing plan. It provides an in-depth understanding of strategic management and business planning, and of the tools for reviewing current organisational strategies.

Change Management and Resource Administration

The assessment provides knowledge and skills to enable the learners to demonstrate an understanding on the classic and contemporary theories of leadership; their applicability to contemporary organisations in the globalized world. Further the assessment looks into the concepts in need for organisational change and the ways in which it can be managed to support organisational strategy.

Financial Planning

The assessment covers two tasks which are to be presented in the report format. Having completed the tasks the student will have gained knowledge and understanding in applying financial principles relevant to strategic management in the organisational contexts. The assessment also focuses on strategic planning for profit as well as not for profit organisations with a global focus.

Entry Requirements for the Diploma in Business Management If you wish to enrol in this programme, please make sure you meet the following entry requirements:

  • An Honours degree, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ managerial work experience in Business Managerial roles and evidence of ability to study at postgraduate level.

AND

  • If you are not a native English speaker, we would require applicants to demonstrate a certified level of proficiency in IELTS of at least 6.5 or above, or equivalent.
