The academic director of LSM, Dr. David Holliman has over two decades of experience in the education industry and works to ensure that quality standards are maintained in the creation, validation and delivery of the various qualifications provided by LS Education Group. He possesses a Ph.D. in Strategic Management and Culture, an MSc in research methods and an MA in Business Analysis.

Term 1

Critical Issues in Tourism, Hospitality and Events Practices

This module is designed to provide you with an in-depth understanding of critical issues in tourism, hospitality and events management. One of the main focuses for the design of this module has been to make you aware of both the ‘non-business’ and ‘business’ sides of the tourism, hospitality and events management industry so that you are sensitive to the society and the values it upholds. Additionally, the module helps you understand the critical issues governing the society and how to be more open when dealing with issues linking both society and the field of tourism, hospitality and events management.

Heritage Culture and Society (Optional)

This unit explores the meaning, value, and reach of ‘heritage’ for various publics, playmakers, and populations around the world. It draws on many international examples and case studies to inspect the role of heritage as a cultural and promotional resource in the business of tourism. On successful completion of this module, you will be expected to be able to demonstrate, by written and presentation methods, specialist knowledge of anthropological, cultural studies, political science, and other models of understanding heritage.

Strategic Management for Tourism, Hospitality and Events

This module aims to introduce you to the critical issues confronting tourism, hospitality and events management in a global context. The purpose of this module is to advance your critical management knowledge and skills for tourism, hospitality and events, therefore developing a ‘philosophic practitioner’.

This unit also intends to instil a transdisciplinary awareness of the critical issues, which are central to practice in tourism, hospitality and events. It expects you to acknowledge the behaviours and experiences of those involved in the tourism, hospitality and events industry as hosts and guests from a ‘non-business’ standpoint.
